alright, my gti is having some issues. things to know, battery is brand new and so is the oil. however, the car also has 2.5" tt/borla catback, k&n drop in , and giac chip. also, the day after getting the chip installed...well, actually right after having my suspension installed, the check engine light came on. well, we VAG'd it and it said the cam sensor was messed up and that made sense, so i replaced it with a new one. however, now the VAG reads speed sensor. i heard there's two in the car, but i thought the cam sensor was the speed sensor that it was reading? anyways...whats up with my car? i'm sure it could use a tune up/plugs/wires...but what could it be????
the situation-
the car struggles at starting up
the car tends to knock around 1800-2100 rpms
the car feels sluggish compared to how it should feel
the check engine light is on

do you think that's possible while putting a k&n drop in filter? because the check engine light came on right as soon as i started up my car after having my suspension/tie bars/k&n/exhaust all slapped on. the guy at the shop tried blaiming my giac chip, but i know that isn't the reason...i'd already driven the crap out of it the day prior with the stock set up.

I replaced my Camshaft Positioning Sensor around 60k (same symptoms, but without the knocking, and the car would hesitate just with random driving, CE light would come on, go off, (not blinking), then finally came on and stayed on until I replaced the sensor, no problem since). I now have 119k on the car, stock engine except K&N cone, no more CE light. If you need to have it looked at again, take it to Alexandria VW and talk to Cesar (they know Jim Chu really well over there) and ask him what the problem might be. Sounds like the CPS is still jacked up, but you said you replaced it. Hate to ask a stupid question, but was the CPS new or out of another car? How about a fuel delivery problem (filter), maybe a dry rotted vacuum line somewhere you can't readily see? Don't know much about the speed sensor but I'll thumb my Bentley and see what I can come up with...

new, i bought it from denon. i'm still reading fault codes even with it, however the car ran a bit better after having the sensor added.

Engine Speed Sensor? You will have this code when you run a VAG tool becasue the car is off.
As for the Cam Position sensor, mine has been throwing that code for quite some time but I have seen no ill effects, the car still runs like a beast. Hope this helps.

i got the cps code and i'm seeing a slight bucking sometimes in lower rpms. idle is fine and the CEL only comes on once in a while. i'll post back when i replace mine within the week

i have the exact same thing! it got a bit better, smoother even when i had the cam sensor replaced. however, it's still not running quick enough...i mean its quick, it's just not as quick as it should be.
