The '98 1.8T was known to have a few problems being the introductory year in my Passat. Now that i am up around 85k miles on it, is there anything i whould be looking at carefully? That is, items like the oil pump, or any oilers inside the engine, or especially the turbo?
I jsut stepped up to the new century (from the A2 Jetta) so if anyone can point me to a more detailed description of the known problems with this engine it would be apprecitaed.

The only oiling problems I've heard of are in regard to the oil feed line for the turbo. The line did not have enough shielding where it passes over the turbo. The oil tends to coke inside the metal line ad clog it up, especially if you are using dinosaur oil. The oil feed line and shield were updated for the '99 year.
