A bit more help from the AZ dubbers.

Hey all... It looks like I'll be getting that car... Now, have any of you driven from PHX to Denver? What is the best route?? Even to NeMexico would help me out... Which is better... I-17, or hwy 87 for getting to I-40 and to Denver the quickest... What is the speed limit on 87? will it actually shave off time, or is it not worth it? if I am talkin out my arse let me know...

Well I have driven from PXH to Grand Junction numerous times. I take I70 to Cresent Jct. down though Moab, Mexican Hat, Kayente, to Flagstaff. From Flag to Phoenix sucks usually, bumber to bumber for about 30 miles out of the city. I have that trip down to less than 8 hours, so if you add the 3-4 hours from Denver to GJ you got a long days drive but not to bad.

I was already thinking 12-14 if I take the freeways... anyone gone this route... 40 to 25? What is the fastest way to santa fe?

I have driven it about a dozen times and have always taken 17 to Flagstaff, 40 to Albuquerque then 25 to Denver. At least that way there are no surprises, since it is all interstate.
One thing to remember. If you are towing, it is fairly steep from Phoenix to Flag and the same is true between Abq and Colorado Springs. Make sure you have a trans cooler, even if it freezing outside.

I've got a chevy tahoe, and towing wouldn't be a prob w/ 330 hp under the hood... but that is besides the point... cause I will just be driving the car back... how long does the trip take you? how fast is your avg.?
thanx again...

if you go through I 40, beware the Raton pass! its probably Filled with snow now.. since its been snowing a LOT in NM lately.. and its CRAZY steep. also when going tords Santa Fe, climbing la bajada hill is a bitch if your towing.. I know this road well, and I know the road to colorado well too.. been there about 5 diffrent ways
DONT go through toas or chama during the winter..
I"m from santa fe, driving is about 8 hrs to PHX.. thats about half way, so count on about 15 or 16 HRS each way..

How slow u drive??? I made if from Riu Doso denver in 7 hrs... only takes me 5-6 to SF... neways... I have towed this all with my jet ski... and NO prob... and Raton is not a pass... just a hill (for me anyway) I am used to vail pass... 10-11K ft.
I just want the fastest route from phx to alb...EDIT: it only took me 13 hrs to get from Havasu to Boulder while towing my jetski (of course I was doin 85 the whole way... So I can't see how PHX to DEN can be more hrs... just a thought...

It all depends on how fast you drive. I went home for x-mas and on the way back it took 11 hours door to door from Tucson to San Fran(I had to be at work the next day). I have also driven from LA to Abq and back in less than 24 hours. It is all ballpark.
I still think the fastest way is the interstate, especially in winter.

Just take the 17 to 40 to 25 and up......that would be the best way. Just watch out for the damn New Mexico cops, all they do is sit on the side of (or middle) the road and wait for speeders........been caught there too many times. It should only take about 12 hours unless you drive like my grandma. (or towing her)

well, the last time I drove it I had a escalade following me, full of stuff, so we were going about 75-80.. if you go through socorro NM-> sho low AZ-> globe -> phoenix, you can shave off some time. I did that run in abut 6hrs, but I wouldn't go through there in the winter. all the speed limits that way are 45-60.. but theres NO cops, so when I went through it was like 100+ most of the time, and its a FUN drive(some twisty ass mountian roads)

its not the NM state police you have to watch for, its the damn Tribal police! those guys will pull you over for 1 over the limit.. but they don't report it to the DMV.. so no points on the license, but the tickets are $$$$..
the state cops sit on the back side of overpasses and have helicopters radio down to them.. you never see them coming untill its too late.
