A/C compressor signal??? What does this do?

Pin 16 on the digifant II ecu is supposedly the ac compressor signal. Does anyone know what type of signal this gets?
A/C has been ripped out of my car unfortunately but I'd like to possibly use this signal to increase idle while stuck in traffic on hot summer days and nights so my alt and battery charge better when the rad fan is on + other accessories.

I believe it signals the ecu when the compressor clutch is engaged to add some rpms and keep the engine from bogging. If you have a problem with charging at idle, you have a problem with your charging system and need to troubleshoot it. (if the problem is too much draw from your stereo system, that is another issue altogether and solutions are varied - do a search on that)

Charging system is as good as it gets for the 1980's http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif In the NYC area you can sit in traffic for upwards of an hour or 2. Now factor in night and its raining, "lights, wipers, blower fan, rad fan, maybe fogs and radio at 800rpm" the battery takes a real hit after a while. It would just be nice to have a small bump in rpm like say 1300 or so to keep that alt pumping.

At 51 yrs old, my memory isn't what it used to be. However, I believe there is a higher amperage alternator which is a direct fit and could pump out enough extra voltage to help. Being that I was born and raised in Northern Iowa, and the weather not being that much different from NYC (I went to college with a bunch of guys from the Bronx, Brooklyn, a few from Queens, etc.) that would probably take care of it.
