I pulled my A/C system out and am now left with the issue of putting something back in to route the accessory belt properly.
I don't want to drop upwards of $150 for a replacement water pump pulley.
short of re-installing the air compressor and letting it free wheel, does anyone have any other options for pulley replacements for the water pump.
Cheers

Re: A/C removal-H2O pump pulley options? (sillysyncro)

Order from the dealer part #028 121 310 E. This is the steal stamped water pump pulley from the ABA. It bolts on and fits perfectly. This is the same pulley that I use and have been using for years know.

I din't have power stearing. I can find out what size the other belt is though. I took a piece of string and wrapped it around all the pulleys and the nmeasured the length.
Oh yeah the pulley only cost me about $25.

Most people I know use V- and Serp-belt to mean the same thing (the ribbed belt). The narrow belt i usually refer to as the accessory belt. Anyway, this pulley is driven by the ribbed belt. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Thanks,
The pulley p/n didn't fly w/ the local stealership, but there is a h2o pulley from a 1.9L diesel that seems to fit the bill. p/n was 028 121 031 E, last 3 numbers were different from the post above but I bought it anyways

SO what else is needed to get rid of the AC? Just remove the compressor, get a new water pump pulley, and new belts and thats it?

you can also remove the condensor and all the lines that a/c lines in the engine bay if you want. Next thing on my list is all the a/c related stuff under the dash! Maybe one day when I am feeling ambitious...

Has anyone noticed that the water temps drop when you remove the A/C condensor? A friend of mine told me about this. He said it made a big difference due to the fact that there was more airflow to the radiator.
(his A/C was never on, since it was busted, so the condensor wasn't giving off any heat, all the cooling was coming from increased airflow!)
Anyone experience the same?

Re: A/C removal-H2O pump pulley options? (Kokino)

Gary,
Between the Water Wetter and the removed condensor, my water temps BARELY go above the solid "warm up" mark. Only when I'm sitting at idle for any length of time does the water temp reach 160 on the guage.
I removed the compressor this past weekend, and it's very very easy to do. The non-A/C water pump pulley is easy to install. The whole thing took maybe 30 mins. The drive belt I'm using is probably a different length because I'm running a lysholm with a stock pulley, but it's 64.5 inches. The smaller belt was 27 inches I believe (I had bought both 26 and 27 inches, and I think I ended up using the longer of the two.) http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Wow. That's amazing. I'm sure your oil temps must not be too high either...?
I replaced my A/C condensor with an aftermarket one last year, and I really noticed higher temps. I think the condensor is too restrictive, so I may get rid of it. My car is in pieces, the engine is out, so it may be the right time to do it..
Thanks,
Gary

I just ordered had my local dealer order this pulley for me. $12.70 plus tax sure beats $125 - $150 for the "proper" one people have been using.

Re: A/C removal-H2O pump pulley options? (SaabFan)

Only thing on this is - the pulley surface is smooth like it is supposed to run off the back of the serpentine belt, but i think I have to run it off the ribbed surface - I'm not sure yet, as my engine is spread around the city right now. No big deal, as long as the tension is high enough so it doesn't slip.
Any word on the full p/n on the shorter v-belt? i tried the above number (Gates 7260) but it didn't work. Serpentine was on the money.
The low price of this job and the freer radiator are going to be sweeet. I wonder if I could go to a smaller rad and throw in a big ic right next to it....
