We know that the headlight washer system was available on a select few MK3's in Europe.
Name the models it was available on (most commonly) and how the feature was activated from within the car.
Post pictures to back up your answer.

Re: A Euro question stumper... (LostBoyScout)

I've seen them on Canadian Corrados....otherwise I dont know...
Re: A Euro question stumper... (evolveVW)

i dont know what cars it came on, but i would assume, but i would guess that it was activiated when you spray the windshield washers by pulling the stalk...thats how the headlight wipers on my parents' volvos work anyway.
Edit: do i get partial credit???

Re: A Euro question stumper... (VWguy)

I am interested having this on my car, but is it possible with NA bumpers?
I am going to Deutschland in 2 months and consider buying some stuff as long as it fits.
Re: A Euro question stumper... (VR6 Mk3)

I'll check through the European price lists this week - this is where you'll find this info - if anywhere. I think it's going to be an option on alot of the cars - it just wasn't popular. It's not pictured in any of the brochures - at least the ones I have.
Re: A Euro question stumper... (Schnellfahrer)

Who put the what in the where? Umm.... D, and that IS my final answer.
Re: A Euro question stumper... (Fly952.0)

they had them on corrado's here, as well as on B4 passats. I have them on my A4, but they don't stick out all the time, they stick up from the bumper once in a while when I am cleaning my windows.
they are a pain in the ass though, as they will squirt windshield washer fluid all over the hood, and the front of your car. but if you want 'em!

Re: A Euro question stumper... (VWguy)

they go on at intervals, like every 5th time you wash the windshield, the headlight washers will come on...at least thats the way it is in my dads BMW
Re: A Euro question stumper... (Dieselboy)

Here's what I know. There's a different resevoir on these models, with another tube coming down to feed this wahser system. Also, on the MkIV's, I know it shoots every time and is activated the same way as the window washers are. The diagram looks rather easy to follow.

Just a heads up...your sig is too long...I would trim it before a moderator gets to you. In reguards to the post, that is a very cool setup. I have no clue what cars it was offered on, but I'm definitely curious to find out!

I checked several of my German price lists and found no reference of this at all. Is it possible that this was a Italian, France or Austria-only option like the yellow fogs were France only? I also have 2 hardbound Golf III books from Germany that show off difference aspects of the Golf III's and could find no reference to the headlight washer system in there either. I also checked my German owners manuals and found nothing in there either.

I'm not sure which models. But, I've seen Ventos and Golfs with them and have also seen the bumpers with the holes for them in several UK parts catalogs.
But, they're quite ugly and obtrusive compared to other implementations.
Re: A Euro question stumper... (bento)

They were mandatory by law in several contrys so they were on every singel model of the Golf from a CL to a VR6 or at least in Finland. They use the same resevoir but with a own pump look at the picture #12.They are activated when you spray the windshield. They aren't mandatory any more so i pulled my out and plugged the lines and the holes it created in my bumper.
Re: A Euro question stumper... (Skogster)

I don't think it's a very good idea. It just isn't pratical unless you have the little "volvo-like" wipers that wipe the headlights too.. I can't imagine that the water squirt alone would be that effective, especially against the thick grimy road sand/salt residue that gets plastered on your headlights in the winter.. Kind of seems like a waste of time, money, and wiper fluid if you ask me! And I think the proof is this:

If people that had them stock don't want them, why would anyone want to add them to their car? To be more "euro" ?????

Re: A Euro question stumper... (powderhound)

I made a set for my '98 GLX (posted pics a while ago). Made the nozzle holders out of fiberglass, made them skinny side to side, long front to back, that way you can surface mount them on the bumper and butt the end of them up against the molding under the headlights. That's how you hide the supply tubing. I put a second washer pump in for them (uses original reservoir), and had to rig up a one way check valve on a T fitting on the output of the pump so the washer nozzles wouldn't siphon all the fluid out of the reservoir when not being used (the nozzles are lower than the reservoir tank).
It works OK. All is really does is wash off the salt crusts in winter. I'm going to upgrade the system in a couple weeks with VW heated washer nozzles. Stay tuned.
