A ? for those of you with euro cams

664 Views 4 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  SpeedyD
The Jetta goes under the knife in about two weeks. Am trying to decide whether or not to change to the euro intake cam. Would like some feedback from those of you that have done this, especially in conjunction with a chip.
Did you lose much bottom end?
Do you think the top end gains make up for any bottom end loss?
Overall impression of the cam vs the stock 16V cam
TIA!

I have a euro intake cam, its in a stage III P&P head. I like it. The motor has a 1.8 bottom end, so this motor has less "bottom end" than my rabbit did, but I doubt thats the cams fault, I bet its the loss of .02 liters of displacement

0.02 or 0.2L??
anyways,, I noticed a bottom end loss for sure, but I also noticed that the cam churns out more power up top and for a longer period (till redline),, is it worth it? yes.. but be prepared to lose the super quick races around town and whoop on them once you get to ~5000 RPM.

http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif it made me giggle. I'd accelerate up to about 4k rpm in 2nd and then stomp on it...all the way to redline.....lot's of giggles. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

I have it in my 1.8 - well worth it. VERY slight loss on the bottom in my case, but noticeable gains up top. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
