A question for 1.8t A4 owners (Please Look)
I was wondering of you 1.8t drivers whether the engine noise in your A4's is loud and buzzy or smooth and quiet? I drove one the other day for the first time and I was surprised at the amount of buzziness the engine had. It was very audible and could be felt throught the steering wheel. Is this normal? The car was a MY 2000 and had drive by wire throttle. I'm suspecting that this has something to do with it as my roomate with a 1.8t GTi with DBW is kind of loud and buzzy as well compared to my other friend's 1.8t GTi that is not DBW. Any ideas or thoughts as to possible problems causing the noisiness and some seeming loss of low end punchiness? Anything I can do to fix it? Thanks everyone.

mine is also silky smooth and very quiet.. to the point of almost being boring.. I wish I had more turbo spooling whirr

Anyone have any suggestions as to why the car i drove seemed kinda loud? Could it be a boost problem? A leak or something?

Mine is very quiet. If you turn down the stereo and listen closely if no other traffic is around you can hear the turbo whistling, but you have to be super quiet to hear it.

Mine is (was) great except at idle where it was rough and icky
- compared to any 6 that is...
