A3 struts on A2 car?

904 Views 8 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  lotus7
Are the front struts from an A3 identical in measurements to the A2?
I know the bolt pattern to connect them to the hub assembly is identical, but...
...could one use A3 front struts on an A2 (without any other mods)? What would be needed in order to mod them?
Thanks for your help http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

The A3 struts (and rear shocks) made before 11/95 will work on an A2 as long as they're not VR6. After 11/95 they are different.

So, after 11/95 the 8V and VR6 cars shocks were identical = not the same as A2 shocks?

FWIW, I use Bilstein sport A3 vr6 dampers on my A2 16v. Not much difference in ride height. I'm on factory springs btw. They may raise an 8v noticeably though.

I've got MKIII Shocks and struts (Bilstein HD's) in my Jetta, they work fine.
I got mine from Shine Racing (SRSVW.com)
I just told them I wanted the HD's and this is what they sent me.
I didn't know about the different after 95 though...

Thanks for the replies... http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
I've got Eibach springs on mine (87 8V Golf), and one of the front struts is shot... so the ride hight is lower than stock already.
Did you - lotus7 and 92Jetta2L - switch to the VR6/A3 upper strut bearings as well? Which ones did you use and who's got the best price for these if you know?

I stuck with the regular (but new) strut bearings because I heard the VR6 one's will raise the nose on a non-VR6 car

Ditto. I reverted back to A2 strut bushings due to the increase in front ride height.
