Re: A4 2.8 VS 1.8T i know i know.....just a quick question (Mr_Ginzo)

just a chip isnt going to make a 1.8t quicker than a 30v v6. it keeps up a little better that way though.

Really?? What makes you say that?
What times are you seeing that the 30v v6 cars pulling?
How are they so fast that a chipped 1.8t can only keep up with it?
What model years are you comparing?

What has more aftermarket? (1.8t VS 2.8)
What are stock 1/4 mile e.t's for both?

1.8t has way more mods available.

Saw one report for 15.9 for the stock 1.8t - no data on year or tranny.
Also saw 16.8 and 17.4 for 2001 1.8t - no other data here either.
Can't seem to find times for the 2.8 - Sorry.

My experiences make me say that. I've raced chipped a4s and vws and I've always had an edge over them. The 30v is almost 200hp right out of the box. My sister owns a 1.8t and theres no way she can keep up with my v6. A friend of mine has a gt25 turbo on his a4, and THAT is fast, but stock turbo'd 1.8ts are not. Maybe my car is just faster than every other v6 out there, and everywhere else the 1.8ts are faster, but i doubt it, because no chipped 1.8 has passed by me.
Again, my buddy with the gt25 turbo and 100 octane race chip, header, etc.. is FAST. but thats not just a chip. that's $5000 worth of upgrades.
Dude asked what car is faster. I'm just stating my experience.
After riding in my buddys car though, I considered trading the v6 in on a 1.8, but instead I bought a supercharger kit for my car on ebay for $900. Pes is rating that kit at 295hp. So I'm happy with the v6 and its upgrade path.
I hope I'm not coming off sounding like a jerk, because I'm not trying to be one, but it's a shame that such a good car (the v6) gets pushed aside so often. Like I've always said, test drive both and see which you prefer.
Another thing to consider, my car just turned 90,000 miles. I've replaced the water pump and timing belt. ZERO problems otherwise. A chipped stock turboed car will probably not have that same reliability.

I am really looking at A4's right now, and this discussion has really helped me.
the 1.8T motor, while being peppy and under 2 liters, costs more to maintain and modify in a 90k+ mile car...
My budget is around $8k, and I have been finding 70k+miles on A4 2.8Q's...
That will probably be what I buy

2.8L is faster than a Stock 1.8T
But the 1.8T has more tuning options.
2.8L does have the supercharger so what ever way you go you will be pleased because it's an Audi with potential.
I chose the 1.8T for the fuel economy and the the peformance.
So far I am lacking performance,
