Hey all,
Just to keep you posted.
I disassembled the ABA distributor by drilling out the pin that holds the gear on the shaft (I wasn't able to push it out).
With the pin out I removed the gear and the distributor's shaft with single slot disc.
I couldn't use a digifant distributor because the digifant unit is smaller in height than the ABA unit (the shaft would have been too short) so I used a 1993-1997 1.8 8V distributor, it has the 4 slot needed to produce the spark on a digifant controlled engine and is the same height as the ABA distributor.
I removed the pin from the gear on the 1.8 unit, and moved the innards of the 1.8 distributor to the ABA distributor. I reinstalled the gear from the ABA unit on the 1.8 shaft and used the 1.8L pin (that one I could drive out).
Everything lines up, no radial play at all, it works! All of this for 0$CDN that's minus .60cents US! (Because a mechanic at the shop had one in his toolbox and he gave it to me)
By the way if you do this, don't forget to install the shim between the disc and casing (below the rotor), I assume it's important and I had forgetten it and had to dissamble the distributor a second time.
Have fun!
