ABS Hydraulic pump out -- brakes just went too -- are they related?

Hello,
My ABS light stays lit, so I took my Corrado to the dealer. They said the ABS pump needs to be replaced along with two detectors (to the tune of $2700). I've yet to get it fixed and have driven my car sparingly since then (less than 50 miles). Yesterday, my brakes started do barely work. By this I mean the brake pedal is very hard to push and the car brakes slowly. I'm thinking this is related to my ABS problem, but I'm not sure. If it is related, is there a way to "disable" my ABS so my car functions like normal brakes? If it's not related, then what might the problem be?
Thank you for any help,

this is EXACTLY my problem. if you figure it out, let me know. I was thinkin if i took out the abs computer, it SHOULD in theory work correctly without having ABS.

I replaced my abs pump. $150us used. A licensed shop will not replace anything ABS related with used parts... FYI. Fortunately, I have nice friends.

It was a PITA to install too... especially in the Corrado.

Disconnect your battery for atleast an hour, clean the front and rear ABS wheel speed sensors with brake parts cleaner, and also some 3M scotchbrite pads.

Kinteik: you've done this? Thanks.

Ive done almost every trick in the book with a Corrado. They are nice cars, sometimes I like to experiment with things, and come up with quick fixes and results.
Sometimes, you just have to stop asking people for help, and asking questions, and take situations into your own hands, most of us are over 18,heck 21,adults,so its time to stop being pests and fix our own problems. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

The problem is, i don't have the money to take my car anywhere to get them too look at it. I only have 1 car and i need to drive it to work every day.

I bought my car with the ABS of the fritz and got a great deal! the problem with mine was the Mustard yellow anadized thing, its a switch that regulates the pressure of the pump and tells it when to turn on and off! there is a way to test with OHM meter to make sure that it is working correctley! also I have a pump if you need a used one! I forgot to mention I have a Hydrolic booster setup out of a 89 non abs Corrado you could swap out with the ABS unit for $65.

i just replaced an ABS pump in a VR6 passat not to long ago. it had the abs light on and the pedal was exactly as you described...hard to push with little braking effect. get a used pump from a junkyard, check out carparts.com or somewhere along those lines for one. make sure you get a g60 pump, as they are different than their vr6 counterparts.
also, if you are mechanically inclined at all, you will be able to do this R&R. it will take you approx. half a day with some BS'ing in between. not a hard job at all. good luck.
Re: ABS Hydraulic pump out -- brakes just went too -- are they related? (oversteervw)

here a bit of info on the abs thing: if you lost your power brake at the same time than the abs light went on, it s because your car has the ¨teves¨ abs system as opposed to ¨bosh¨, my rado has that same system and i had the sistem break down on me twice! the teves system pump is the part that breaks usually and that pump is what gives your system its pressure for power brakes.
so the two are definitly related. solutions are to swap a non abs power brake booster unit or find a used pump and swap the dead one out.
btw; you can take the pump off the rest of the system without removing the complete assembly, it's VERY, VERY thight, but possible, i've watch my ace mecanic do it ...twice

hope this sheds some light http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

I just sold a G60 ABS master cylinder on ebay with the wiring harness and the abs ecu for $170 and it worked fine when I removed it
The non abs master cylinder costs $100 on http://www.vwparts.com I know because I need a new one
But I do know this the abs system only has one hard brake line going to the rear brakes. also you will need a brake booster too and then the vacume check valve line from the intake manifold. its not that bad and it makes the car much easier to work on it will just require you to open up the engine bay a little http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif
