The AC compressor on my 08 Jetta (2.5) broke. Are there multiple compressors for this year Jetta because the prices of a replacement unit range from $450+ (napa) to $80 (online).Definitely need the pulley and belts.

The compressor locking up is a symptom of what actually happened - the compressor ate itself (think: nasty grinding things happened inside.)
You must absolutely replace the dryer (because it's going to be full of shiny metal bits), and the compressor outlet line (same reason), and have the system professionally flushed (to ensure that there isn't any more metal bits in it.)
No new parts go on until it's cleaned out.

I can't just replace the compressor? what's going to be involved here? thanks for the help by the way.
SOP when you have a compressor failure is you need to flush out the complete system to remove debris and contaminated oil etc. Take it to a pro if you do not have a flush machine or other equipment to do it. Need to replace not only comp but Txv and receiver-drier or complete condenser if r-d can not be replaced.

Something to read TB from VW
