accelerator cable choice

On my 16v conversion, should I stick with the 16v's cable. Should it fit OK in my ''79? Will it fit in the same firewall hole etc? Maybe I just wasn't thinking but I had to break the plastic fitting at the firewall to get the donor cable out. Shouldn't be that hard right?
It's these little things that get me...

I'd think the mk1 cable would be fine, as the throtlebodies are in the same location on both the cars. Hows the project coming? Pics?
