Re: add alarm pager to vw facotry alarm, did search no luck. (Oltorf)
nope. you will need to install a new alarm system. Viper has one that I used to install. Kind of a pointless system if you ask me. I mean think about it, why do you wanna know? If it goes off and you try and be a hero by stoping them, #1 they prolly have a weapon or tool they used to break in which they'll swing crazilly at you and possible injure you or more something more serious.

Re: add alarm pager to vw facotry alarm, did search no luck. (Chromeant)
Wrong!!!! I've got my pager system intergrated with my factory alarm. So you can say I have two alarms. I can use my compustar to control both or just use my key to arm the factory alarm.
My factory alarm doesn't control my compustar system.

Yes you can BUT you loose your encoded key theft protection. Because the alarm installers were generally take apart a valet key and hardwire it to the ignition system.
And I don't think you can have them on manual trannies, because it's to easy to leave the car in gear and have it motor off on it's own.
Re: add alarm pager to vw facotry alarm, did search no luck. (landrumdh)
you don't lose your encryption and they don't do anything to your valet key with remote start. They can do it on a manual transmission also, they just have to tap into the clutch lock switch. I have it on mine and I can start my car and run it from the inside of my house. I can also just use the stock alarm.
Re: add alarm pager to vw facotry alarm, did search no luck. (Penny)
Well, actually, I'm using two alarms: The factory and Clifford Intelliguard 7000 IQ. The remote start module is part of the brain of the Clifford, but the alarm installed ran me about $500 and I have lot of other options added in. Plus I live in Hawaii and everything here is more expensive, except pinapples and coconuts
Re: add alarm pager to vw facotry alarm, did search no luck. (revensonjr)
Lol, you know what I mean. Of course, I really have no need for the remote start, being that I live in Hawaii and the coldest it's gotten is like 65 fahrenheit. I just like to start it up sometimes to scare the poop outta some rude person sitting on my car in the parking lot
Too bad there's no "rev" switch. On the other hand, provided my plans for forced induction go accordingly, this alarms built in turbo timer will be nice

How do they get around the imobilzer system? The car won't start without the code unless them somehow get rid of the system.
And it's been posted here several times that it's illegal to have remote starts in manuals, maybe it's not. But you still have to be careful b/c if you leave your car in gear and goto start it your car may take off on it's own and start to roll.

Eazy you have to put your valet key in a black box hiden under the dash, the black box will read the magnetic field that the key generate, then repeate the code to the emitter located to the receiver (around the ignition) when needed (when you push the start button on the remote control)
Re: add alarm pager to vw facotry alarm, did search no luck. (landrumdh)
What is done is your valet key is hidden under the dash permanantly. It is used only when the car is remote started. The immobilizer system is not affected at all and works like normal. It is only bypassed when the car is remote started.
As far as I know it is not illegal to install a remote start on a manual tranny...BUT, you would have a hard time finding an installer that will do it for you.
I try not to install remote starts on manual trannys and most of the time, I will turn them away. I have seen what a car can do when it is left in gear
