After a fellow pickup owner mentioned that he picked up a set of Corrado heated seats (and I'm now looking for a set) and previous questions from my wife (its the 2nd most asked question after where are the cup holders)--I got to thinking, could we add this to non-heated seats?
Could we take one of those seat covers that has the massage and heating elements in it and some how fit it into our seats?
How are the seats constructed differently? is the heating element inside the foam or between the foam and fabric? Anyone explored this?
thanks.

I know RMMW as well as a few other vendors sell a unit that plugs into the cigarette lighter and slips under the set fabric. if I'm not mistaken it was under a $100, so it might be worth checking into.

Re: Adding heating element to seats? (Driftin GTI)

I priced adding the heating elements to the '91 GLI Recaros I bought. (Since they weren't installed at the time, I thought it wouldn't be so hard.) Using new factory parts, I stopped after the tab cleared $700.
There are companies that sell heating retrofit kits that must be cheaper than the route I was considering. As with all things, it can be done. The only question is the amount of skill, time, energy and money it will take to accomplish.

Alot if not most Audis had heated seats.... Find a pick and pull and bring your bowie knife. y'all DO have Bowie knives dont you?

I'm curious, are the heating elements in the bottom or back of the seats?

Re: Adding heating element to seats? (Kevin Rowley)

I was at the dealer today. the heating element for the Recaro seat is $140 and includes the a tail of the wiring harness. Specifically, this was the Recaro seat description under the Corrado seat diagram in the ETKA software. We didn't have the traditional Recaros here in the US in the Corrados and when we looked under a '91 and '92 GLI they didn't see a heating element option. So, I don't know if its for the same seats or not, but they should work.
So, for $280 plus 2 switches and some time taking a part the seats we might have a "factory" setup. Its probably easier and cheaper to find a set of Corrado seat with them built in and then fabricate our own harness. And the seat cushion heater/vibrator from Wal-Mart may also have some merit. I got one of those for Christmas around here somewhere and hope to examine it soon.
