Adjusting Striker Pin for Rattles?

Okay, so I got my car back from the dealer the other day. I complained about rattles/clicking noises from the door. I told them I wasn't sure if it was from the lock area or if it was from the door seals. I get my car back, and the said they lubed the locks and adjusted the striker pins. I start driving it, and I STILL hear the clicking noises. In fact, it seems like it's worse now. I guess I should tell them to adjust it again right?
Should I ask them to try to make it so that the door makes a better seal with the door seals when it's closed? I'm thinking maybe it's because of that.

What does it sound like? I have several clicking/tapping noises coming from both my doors. When I took my car in for service, I told them about it, they put some silicone grease in the door lock, but that didn't do squat. To me, it sounds like the window is rattling against part of the door...and it's constant, even over slighty bumpy roads (i.e. fairly smooth!). It's irritating the hell out of me. I just got a Bentley manual, so I'll probably yank the door panel off and take a look and see what's going on. Let me know if you get it fixed.

got the same noise in my driver's side window; going to dealer tomorrow; to the pharmacy for meds if they don't fix it ...

Sounds like the same thing I had! I took it to the dealer and they put on what they called 3M isolation tape on the edge of the door panel where it touches the door and that solved the problem. Has been rattle free for at least 6 months!!

Try wrapping the striker with black tape, it worked oerfect for me.

Tried that, it doesn't work.

Just out of a hunch...when it starts to rattle press on the handle of the door. I use to get something similar in the Audi. Turned out that the handle was rattling against the frame. Once it was pushed in the rattling stopped. The handles in the dubs..as you may know, are almost identical. If that stops the rattle then tell them to adjust the handle.
Not sure if this is the issue. It is just a hunch/thought...
BTW it use to drive me crazy too

Do you mean the handle on the outside?
Re: Adjusting Striker Pin for Rattles? (BikeBoy24)

Handle on the inside of the door. The metal had a tendancy to vibrate against the black plastic that surrounded it. Took me forever to figure out where it was coming from. Once I found the problem... either pushing on it or lifting it slightly stopped for a few. Then it started again. Had the dealership "tighten" the handle and the issue stopped. Not sure what they did to resolve it. Once I told them what it was, rode them around in it while it did it, they were able to do something about it. Seems as they had to have it replicated before they could ever do anything about an issue. That is an all together other story... but it use to drive me nuts too

I'll see if it's that tomorrow, but it doesn't seem like it. I find that the noise gets louder when it's cold. My theory is that the seals aren't up against the door very wekk, but when it's heats up, it makes a better seal.
Re: Adjusting Striker Pin for Rattles? (BikeBoy24)

Let me know. I would be interested to hear if that is it. Mine was affected by the temperature as well. I equated it to the expansion/contraction of the plastic during hot and cold temps.
Re: Adjusting Striker Pin for Rattles? (JerBer)

Anyone know how to move the striker pin? What size torx (is it torx?) is it? If the dealer can't fix it next time I bring it in, I'm going to try to fix it myself.

I'm fighting the exact same problems. Someone help find a cure.

I agree with this theory also as i get the same sound, especially when its colder.
i like this solution :
I took it to the dealer and they put on what they called 3M isolation tape on the edge of the door panel where it touches the door and that solved the problem. Has been rattle free for at least 6 months!!

Now to find this isolation tape. anyone ever heard of it or where to get it?

Re: Adjusting Striker Pin for Rattles? (swmacneil)

Finally diagnosed the problem on mine today. Had a friend sit in the back and play around while I drove till we found it. My squeaking, which I thought was the door seals, turned out to be my leather seats rubbing when locked in position. I unlatched my rear seat backs and placed a cloth between the seat and the plastic it rests up against and voila! quiet as a mouse. Now i just have to take it to the dealer where the're installing felt on the plastic panel. Sounds like a permanent fix!
