Advice on VR6

I found a GTI that I am pretty interested in. Its a couple hour drive to get to, but the dealer thinks that we could work out the deal I am looking for. It is a 98 GTI VR6, yellow, black leather, cd, etc. It has 67k miles. I had a couple of questions for you guys. Is it true that there are problems with this paint such as fading? I have heard rumours that this color doesn't last long or look good after a while. If it is still the original clutch am I going to need to replace it soon? I have heard that the clutches in these go bad around this mileage. My first car, a civic, ran on the same clutch until 120k miles and that was after four people learned to drive a manual on it and I drove it like a real dumb*ss. If it is still the original clutch should I try to get him to go lower to pay for the replacement. Also, if anyone has pictures of a stock 98 yellow gti I'd like to see what it looks like with stock rims/suspension and what the black leather interior looks like especially. There is a black one that I am looking at too, though I don't know if I could get the deal on that one. Would I have better luck with the paint on that one (its a 98 vr6 with black leather and 61K miles). Thanks for the help and pictures.

Re: Advice on VR6 (AcuraIntegra)

How much?
Also, the paint issue is more of a "Take care of it and it will last" thing
Re: Advice on VR6 (ramondvw)

$2000-$2500 cash over trade
Re: Advice on VR6 (AcuraIntegra)

im not sure about the paint. would say just take care of it. i would imagine it might fade faster than a different color but its a kick ass color.

as for the clutch, im on 92,ooo miles and its the origional. hasnt been a problem for me at all.

Re: Advice on VR6 (AcuraIntegra)

From what I've heard, the paint is high maintenance, but I think any enthusiast would take care of the paint regardless of what color it is. What sucks is that if you start getting parts repainted, it's tricky getting a good match.

True that! I look at a yellow one here in muskegon and you could tell it had been repainted several time. Seems like every body panel was a different colr. It had 60,000 miles and they were asking 16,000 for it http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif

Re: Advice on VR6 (AcuraIntegra)

any pics? Or does anyone know what the interior looks like? I drove a red 98 with cloth interior and it had the red stitching in the boot, seat, floor mats, etc. Does anyone konw if its the same with the yellow (colormatched interior)? Are the seats solid black leather or do they have yellow stitching? What if the car is black on black? Is there any special stitching then? If so does anyone know what color? Thanks again for the help.
Re: Advice on VR6 (AcuraIntegra)

it's true that the ginster golfs were the only one's that vw didn't spray with a clear coat. this definitely shows, especially on the hood. but if you take care of it, compound and wax it, it's all worth it. a ginster is so sweet when it's been newly cleaned!
Re: Advice on VR6 (AcuraIntegra)

Mine has the red stiching with black leather and i have seen the yellow stiching on some other ginster's, with and without leather. It is true about the paint, but if you give it at least an effort to keep it clean it will be alright.
Re: Advice on VR6 (AcuraIntegra)

No it was non VTEC. I was hoping it was at least an ITR. I would have offered a trade.

Hey wuznme...sorry for not getting back to ya! My x-girlfriend was snooping around in my mail account and deleted all your stuff. I had no record of your name on anything so I couldnt respond. Anyways I'm still interested in your car but I have to get mine fixed before I start looking. My trannys busted and its worse than I thought...I thought it was a seal.....
Anyways I'll keep in touch...can I get your e-mail addresss again????

Re: Advice on VR6 (JuiceJetta)

If it was an ITR i would be the happiest man alive. Even if it were a GSR I wouldn't consider selling it. I am looking for a GSR also, but its been alot harder to find one. The GTI will match it in performance (the GSR, not ITR) but once you hit the twisties the integras start to shine. Mine isn't fast enough (140 hp, non-vtec) which is why I'm selling it, but I will definitely miss the handling.
