Hey guys.
I have a SONY aftermarket deck installed in my car. It's the M750 (or something like that...) but i was told that i can't hook it up to the steering wheel controls of my 2k1 GTI VR6... I'd love to use those controls but i'm annoyed because apparently it can't be done. Is that true? If not, how easy is it and who would be best at hooking it up. I live in ithaca, upstate NY.

I was told it can't be done...I suppose it could be if you wanted to pay through the ass...

There is a programmable piece that you can get for your steering wheel controls that is basically a remote IR transmitter, wired to your steering wheel controls. You wire the controls to this transmitter, then place the small IR transmitter (Sized about LED on the alarm, driver's door lock) somewhere in view of the deck.
I've forgotten what the product is called, and the search function is down, but once it's back up, you should be able to do a search and find the name of the product. You should be able to find the item for under 70 bucks. (And you can program the buttons to do anything you want them to do, not just what they're labelled as!)
