It's been about 15 years and 70k since the Bilstein coilovers. I have a hay wagon clunk on full travel of right front. Less travel seems fine. In my mk1 days I would have guessed bad upper bearing. Welcome your experiences.

Wow, 70k in 15 years?!? That’s pretty low mileage. If this is the first issue you’ve had with them, that’s an amazing testament to Bilstein’s quality! This is why you spend good money on good parts!

I agree with your quality assessment. I have used and tuned them for others on many vw's since early type 53 days only one full failure ever. thats why I'm not sure what's wrong here shock only bottoms hard (hay wagon) on full pot hole type rebound. Seems to work well on regular motion. Hoping someone has an answer for my upper bearing concern.
