saw one of the new Caddy CTS's today, looked sharp in person untill i got to the roof...the Dealer had put on one of those fake convertible roof kits on it!

then noticed the gold Caddy badges, no gold spoke wire wheels yet but they're probably on order

I knew this would happen sooner or later! I really like the new CTS but it was only a matter of time before it got the bling-bling.
As for the padded roof plight, I have seen:
Every model of Buick (except Rendezvous--give it time)
Toyota Avalons
Every model of Cadillac (except Escalade--once more, give it time)
Geo Tracker 4-doors (even window between c and d pillar were covered in vinyl!!!)
Maximas
Camrys
Lexi cars
Escorts
Luminas
Impalas--the 90s Impala SS was the worst
Various Benz models
But the one that took the cake: Padded vinyl Landau-style roof on a Camry Solara Coupe!! And it was the base model with the cheap looking hub caps!

I knew this would happen sooner or later! I really like the new CTS but it was only a matter of time before it got the bling-bling.

I ask 'cuz after they have a large one here, almost every car in town sports 'full vest' fake convertible tops. I guess it's easier than actually fixing the roof.
You name it, Caddy's to Camry's. I've even seen a Tahoe with one.
That's the only reason I can think of to do that to a new car. (Other than the obvious lack of taste.

I ask 'cuz after they have a large one here, almost every car in town sports 'full vest' fake convertible tops. I guess it's easier than actually fixing the roof.

It was a tannish-gold color, which didn't do much to cover some of the more awkward lines of the car.

it wasnt at a dealership, it was driving north in I35..but then it diddnt have Texas plates on it either, dont remember what they were, but at least no Texan did that

I think I might have ya beat on this one... a former co-worker of mine had a Hyundai with the fake cabrio top, gold badging, and the obligatory gold chain 'round the license plate. Barf-o-rama!
