I really didnt want to throw down 200 for CAI so I cut a hole under my stock airbox in my 2000 MKIV GTI and ran a two inch diameter plastic hose to left air dam on my bumper. I should of maybe drilled a bigger hole with a bigger pipe, but was experimenting. I feel better throttle response I dont think the car is any faster. When you buy these cone filters how much more air are they letting in the engine? I know people have cut holes underneath there airboxes do you think hoses does anything for me?

Re: Air Box Mod (fatz83)

IMO it helps a little, but it is mostly for sound. Those cone filters are heat suckers, and I think the same even with a heat shield. CAI = waste of money, but thats just me. Some people love them. I ran a hose like you did, and I feel thats the same as them running a tube with a filter on the end. My tube and thier filter are in the same place in the end.
