My '95 Passat GLX VR6 Wagon is stock as far as I know.
Can anyone tell me if I'm missing anything under the hood...

Have alook at the picture, is there supposed to be a pipe/hose connecting these two points.
Thanks

Re: Air Filter Intake missing something ? (vagvr6)

Thanks.
Why would anyone disconnect the flex tube? I have owned the car 6 months, and it wasn't me! I did have the belt & tensioner replaced after I bought the car, it's possible the garage (not a dealer) 'forgot' what was supposed to be there...
Am I right in thinking that the point of the flex tube is to feed air into the air filter - but where does it draw the air from?

it doesn't feed air into the box, it gets air from the box and puts it into the smog pump(i think that's what it is) you could make a tube out of some radiater house or something and use some pipe clamps to hold it on, i bet the dealer will want an amr and a leg for that tube
actually, you could buy one of the small filters that aftermarket companies sell with cai systems. probably only cost like $10 or so

You would have to get 2 small filters if you don't get the pipe. 1 for each hose.
Also, you might want to cover the pipe that comes from the airbox for the time being. The engine can now suck air in from there, ABOVE THE FILTER. This is bad. Hopefully it is not too sandy where you live.

Re: Air Filter Intake missing something ? (Bora20)

OK. I understand I need to do something, either connect the two pipes, or put filters on the open ends...
In the meantime I'll tape over the pipe leading to/from the box, just in case crap starts flying in there (I'm trying not to think about how long this could have been open for).
What's a smog box, do I have one? Where does the downward leading pipe go? Is anything bad happening by driving without a filter on this pipe?
Thanks guys/gals.
