My girlfriends 97 jetta 2.0 airbag light just came on. Car has about 100k miles and she is pretty worried about this. Any ideas why this happened? Thanks.

Take it to the dealer dont mess with it yourself......

scan it and clear it, probably just a fluke. in my 2001 my light came on one day, something else probbably triggered it, im gonna try scanning it and seeing if it comes back, i bet any amount of money if you taek it to the dealer, you will leave with a new air bag, and a bill for $500+ im guessing around http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif

yeah.. he's right, I would try to find someone with vag-com and see what's the exact error message, I had 2 of those recently, both of them had to do with some spring resistance value, it was off by .02 unit, I called the vw service they said it's not bad, so I just reset the error message.

Thanks for your help people.. I'll try my local vw repair dude and see if he has "vag-com"??? and can help. Hopefully this won't need to be taken to the dealer as I am trying to avoid that. Once again, thanks.
