Do you have locking rear diff?
Usually, the stepper motor phrase is refering to the center differential, but since you said "rear stepper motor" I'm assuming it's the equivelant item for the rear diff. True?
If so, this may be an interesting fact to keep in mind for others with odd, and so far undiagnosed electrical issues, and may explain why some Touaregs are more prone to these issues than others. A detail we have not been able to corelate yet here on the forums.
