Alternator Question

Hey guys, my car is dead, I am pretty sure it is the alternator, and this is why, when I took it apart and looked at the brushes they are wayyyy too short. Anyways here is my question, do I need to replace the entire mechnism for the brushes, or can I just replace the brushes themselves.

The brushes are replaceable, but where to get them and how to do it I have no idea. I just went ahead and bought a whole new regulator.
