I was trying to replace my water pump and thermostat but I wasn't succesful. haynes manual says I have to take off the alternator and power steering pump to get to the water pump but I couldn't even gat past the alternator. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Whats giving you trouble? Is it the belt or the brackets? Elaborate please.

It's the bracket. The mounting points on the actual alternator seem like they are way to narrow for the mounting brackets that are attached to the engine. When I was taking it off I knew I was in big trouble come time to put everything back. Sounds like you have experience, what did you do?

For all of you that have the same porblem, this is how I solved it. I shaved a LITTLE material off of the insert where the bolt enters that seemed too narrow to let the alt mount back on its bracket. Then I used a little brute force and lined up the holes for the bolt.
