why did the 2.0L 16v have smaller ports then the 1.8L 16v's head? what is the advantage behind this?

I'm taking a wild guess, but emissions? I know the 2L was a ton more restrictive since times were calling for that...

emission huh...wow smart thing to do by makin the port smaller...i guess this was where Honda beat VW...wow decrease power if you can't pass emission...very inovative...i've heard the same with da modest power of the DOHC vr6...not operating at what the engine potential could really cuz of emission...how da hell does nissan do it in the altima?
