I'm pretty sure you need a ground loop isolator. Radioshack has one, but it has phono plugs.

Ground loop isolator! Never heard of that but after reading about them, that definitely sounds like it helps the symptoms I've got. All the ones I've found online have RCA plugs. I guess I'll have to wire it into the connections for my radio since there is no external amp to put it between. I'm gonna give it a try. Worth a shot for $10 or so. Thanks!

The problem is the alternator. You can try a few things... ferrite beads around the power wires for the radio, there are also inline DC filters that you can buy that will take some of that off the line as well.

The noise is either coming in on the power wires or the antenna. Those will probably stop both. the rca ground loop isolators only stop the symptoms, not the actual problem.
