I have an Alpine MRV-1000.
I'm not sure what the power specs are, I don't really understand the lingo.
It's a two channel amp with a bridge for a single channel, which is how I connected it to the sub. I had it hooked up to a 10" sony sub my friend gave me and I believe I blew it last night by turning it up loud, though not absurdly loud.
So my question is, what kind of specs do i need on a new sub in order to work with my amp? Any input on how to set the gain and crossover settings would help too.
Some guy on another forum says: "The MVR-1000 is offically 100x2 RMS @ 12v. In a car audio mag test, it was almost 300 RMS @ 2 ohms stereo, 14.4v. Bridged at 4 omhs, 14.4v, it was 600 watts RMS."
I haven't verified that, but from what I understand, because i have it bridged its running at 4 omhs, as well as 14.4v rather than 12 with the car running... so i'm pushing 600w RMS into the sub? That seems a bit over the top considering the high end JL audio sub i'm looking at now is only rated at 400w RMS.
btw, This is all going on in the trunk of a 92 cabriolet.
