....is it worth the money and does it work. I have been concerned over fueling issues and would like to see a wide range lambda curve is anybody has one. People who have this addition to their package...how do you like it?
"I have finished the work on the 1.8L 8V. I have rebuilt the motor with a small stem zylinderkopf head(ported/polished w/7mm valves) with intake, GRP A head gasket, Neuspeed 268 camshaft, Autotech header, and a free flowing Techtonics exhaust (55mm) high flow cat. I am considering your chip to enhance my driveability, torque curves and hp curves. Do you have a dyno run with a car that has similair enhancements to mine?....I would like to see a full scale lambda range if you have one. I am concerned about fueling issues currently and would also like to know if you could explain a bit to me on how your chip fattens up the fuel where it most commonly draws thin? Again...thanks for your help and I am looking forward to chipping soon!"
Piece that I sent to AMS...
Thanks for your input guys http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Re: AMS Digifant chipping??...BOTTOM LINE IS... (john green)

best of luck on a reply. when I was running Digi I had the chip and noticed that it improved throttle tip in adn smoothed out the torque curve. wether it added more power or not is debatable but for the 200 bucks I thought it was worth it.
btw zylinderkopf means cylinder head

Re: AMS Digifant chipping??...BOTTOM LINE IS... (john green)

I've dynoed my car both with and without the AMS chip. My GTI gained about 3 HP and 1 ft/lb of torque at the wheels. It also greatly enhanced my throttle response, which, in and of itself, was worth the price of admission. I have an Autotech 270 cam, which is similar to your Neuspeed 268. I noticed that the chip just made my car more "driveable."

The chip did make my car run a little too rich, and I needed to take it to a local reputable dealer where they tuned the engine by adjusting the MAF, idle, and air/fuel ratio - they leaned it out a little.
Besides that one caveat, I think it was worth the $200.
I've got a question for you, John- did raising your compression cause you any probs? I'm thinking of getting a group A headgasket, but with the advanced ignition due to the chip, I wonder if it'll ping too often. My car currently never pings, even with the crappy winter gas. If raising the compression will cause the car to ping more often, it might ofset any gains. Opinions?

Could someone please comment on Garrett vs. AMS? I've had a Garrett chip in my GTI VR6 and it was incredible. Now I'm looking for a chip for my newly acquired 91 GTI 8v. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I had a AMS chip on my old digifant (!) 87 GLI. Rare bird indeed. It made the car easier to drive around town, especially in bumper to bumper traffic. Bigger gains came from the tt exhuast I put on, but if you have other stuff done it can apparently be tuned to take advantage of your mods. On my G-tech it dropped my 0-60 times by .2-.3 seconds. Not too big of a change, but the seat of the pants feeling is that the car pulled stronger around town. Raffi at Eurosport recommended an adjustable FPR, this may take care of fueling issues....

Yummy! Thanks for the tip, Glen. I think that I will move on the AMS chip sometime this spring...
