There are companies who do US conversions. I´ve seen ads in the local classifieds for them. It´s silly though. SLs go with a markup, because there´s quite some waiting time. The dealers won´t gauge, but they´ll tell you to wait. If you want one ASAP, you goota go to an exotic car dealer and those demand a premium.
The SL is still a helluva car, though. 325kph top speed, 0-3000 faster than a Murcielago.

The only thing I would worry about is having Mercedes Benz honor the factory warranty on the car.
Someone looking to make a fast buck here where I live spent the money to import 4 BMW Z8's and convert them for US sale. He stood to make about $30,000 on each car if he sold them at the going markup. Unfortunately for him, BMW doesn't recognize the cars as being US Spec cars and BMW USA refuses to honor any warranty claims on the cars. I'm not sure if he has sold any of them yet, but that simple fact stood to lower his selling price below what he purchased the cars for. Too bad for him...
