For the price there is no other competition that even comes near offering the performance of the Z06 so I can understand.
However, the honors should go to the best car which sells for under $40k out the door.

A Corvette is nice, too bad only a small percentage of the American population can afford one. But if you can afford you, why not then go for the Porsche 911?

Isn't a 911 comparably equipped another $20k? That said, I know that if I could afford one, I'd go for a used 993...or NSX....

for a new 996, youll be paying ALOT more than $40k
the comparably priced Porsche is the Boxster. not even the 'S' just the standard one...
performance wise the only Porsche that'll touch the Corvette Z06 is the Carerra 4S

That's my point. It may be the Sports Car of the Year, but for the vast majority of buyers its irrelevent.

Yeah, but it's Automobile magazine. If you look at the marketing classifications for the magazine, it is listed under "affluent" or something like that.
