Another 'I hate my tires' post. Need some help finding a good tire.

I have 2 tire combinations:
1.) Stock Goodyear/Avus 195/65/15
2.) Racing Hart C5/ Pirelli P7000 SS 225/40/18
Winter is coming up soon and I dread putting my Avus's back on my MK4 Jetta, but they are SO much quieter than my 18's! I think this winter I'm going to shell out the bucks for a new set of tires for the Racing Harts. I really like the dry grip on the Pirellis, but the wet grip is less than average. Tire noise is pretty prominent as well.
Anyways, what is a good tire in a 225-40-18 fashion? I'm not cutting corners and I'm not really interested in saving pennies, I'd like to find an all around good tire. Can anyone help?

Check out the reviews on Tire rack site... they seem to be quite comprehensive.

While I'm not positive they make them in your 15" size, look into the Bridgestone Potenza RE950. I have them in 195/60/14 for the winter and they're incredible.

Sorry, I'm looking to replace the 18's. The Pirellis aren't cutting it anymore
. Thanks for the advice though! http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif

Try checking out the stats on Bridgestone Pole Position SO-3
They come in 225/40-18. I bought a set to replace my stock 16"s and i love them. They are like glue in dry weather, great in the rain, haven't tried them in the snow yet. And yes they are quiet. Yes they are a bit pricey but after getting these tires I fell I don't need a suspension upgrade.
Good Luck on your search

Before I give my .02 one question: Do you realize how scary it is to hear you consider driving 18", not so cheap, alloys in snow, dirt chemicals and the killer...pot holes??
That said maybe the roads ther don't really get that bad, and maybe not that much snow. Fill me just a little.

Really. Why not get a set of winter tires (or good all-seasons) on the stockers and next summer consider new rubber for the 18's? Why compromise?

I'm sorry, I guess my post original post wasn't very clear
1.) I'm putting the stock 15's back on the Jetta for the winter.
2.) While the 18's are off, I'll replace the tires on them and put them on next spring.
No way I'd leave my 18's on in the winter! Sorry for the confusion!

To clear it up, I'm looking for summer tires for the 18's. The 18's are coming off this weekend.
