Another newbie question..about vacuum lines

495 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Patrick
Ok..it's me again. So far you guys have been very helpful with my new endeavors into the world of A1's. I have an 81 Caddy that I just recently purchased.
Here's the deal, under the hood on the passenger side fenderwell is what looks like a vacuum resevoir/valve type deal. It has a red, white, blue and green vacuum line hooked up to it. What the hell is this thing??? A couple of the lines have cracked and I"m wondering if I can just bypass it all together without any issues. Somebody help me out.
Thanks

Simply buy some vac hose and replace the cracked ones. Believe it or not they are there to help your car run better.

Ok thanks, I figured it was there for a reason. Again my question is what is it or what does it regulate/control?

hehehe.........i know what that thimg is too, I tore it out of my truck not to long ago, only because someone had changed the motor to a 1.8, the lines were just floating around the engine bay......its at the tip of my tounge...rrrrrrrrr
I'll take a look in the bently and if no one has posted i will pass the info..........One thing that i thought was funny and that is if we have the same running system, is that there is no jettronic box, ( computer ).....i scratched my head for a while on that one, till i was told that it was pretty much relays that controlled the truck...............

Idle stabalizer?
If that's what you're talking about, definitely leave it in and replace the lines.

Ok..I figured this one out on my own. EGR amplifier is what it is..and the green vac. line runs to the drivers side to a vacuum resevoir. OK...so...I wonder how the car will work now since the EGR valve is mainly for cold start emissions???
Anyone??
