I spoke with the Internet Sales Manager about the afore-posted Environmental Pkg and expensive CD in a 2002 GLS V6 Variant fax bid:
It is an early edition (pre week 32) Passat so the Monsoon had been added along with Luxury pkg (he combined the costs in his bid), and the Environmental Pkg is Scotchgard inside and salt spray protection outside. This dealership is on the gulf coast, so...
Better opinion of the guy after talking over phone--anytime talking IMPROVES your opinion of a salesperson, that's noteworthy.

Monsoon does not add a CD player when there isn't one.
Its just an amp and upgraded speakers.
What he meant to say was 'we added a CD player since its an early model, but we're still going to charge you for it and pretend its part of the monsoon package.' Whether or not the really added the rest of the monsoon package is another question. (is monsoon a dealer installable option?)

Why the salt spray protection? It is unnecessary!
The 2002 Passat comes with a 12 year corrision perforation warranty as it is!
You should be able to Scotchguard the seats and carpet for less than $100.
Environmental Package = Dealer fleecing you for $500

AKA: dealer added option = high profit margin http://****************.com/smile/emthdown.gif
You can buy a can of Scotchguard for cheap (can't be more than $20 for two cans) and spray it yourself. That's basically what they do at the dealership. It will give you the same protection.
The rust through warranty from the factory is already very good (10-12 yrs?) and I doubt that anything they spray under there is going to improve it very much.

All well said here...Monsoon Sound is a FACTORY INSTALLED option, and Sagitt is right about the components...
Interior ScotchGuard is a do at home op...But, once again, as I said last
night $100 is just too cheap for them to do anything of any real substance...
I am right on the Pacific Ocean and we do Exterior EPP pretty regularly, but
at the customer's request. The salt water & spray are just more easily dealt
with by adding that additional layer of protection and the additional coat of wax on top of that...

All Passats come with salt spray protection: it's called paint (with clearcoat). The sheetmetal is galvanized on both sides at the factory. Don't pay for such baloney. Put the money into some nice aftermarket options or something of value...
