Antenna fading

Has anyone had a similar problem with their antenna base fading? My is almost light grey now (all that California sunshine I guess). Has anyone tried to paint this or restore the original material (some sort of rubber I presume).
Thanks in advance.

Re: Antenna fading (Rnwyjim)

I had this happen to my old car. There's a product you can buy to restore it. It's made by Egale 1, Mothers also has one to. You can buy it at your local warehouse, just as long as they sell car products.

Yes, I have noticed the fading is pretty bad on my sisters '99 Jetta. I have also noticed when I wax my '01 GTi, if I get some wax on the antenna base, it likes to trun white on me. Try using some type of protectant for rubber and see how it it works

You can buy a new antenna from http://www.locustom.com ... or try coating it with a silicone spray... you can get some of the lustre back.

Re: Antenna fading (flyjetta)

I've had 3 VW's...I live in Sunny Florida...and I have never had this happen...Can it be caused by using armor all or any other type of cleaner on the antenna?...I notice my neighbor's Jetta has the same problem, and he's had the car for a little over a year!...
I have the same problem ill have to try some of that back to black.
Re: Antenna fading (JmaqVR6)

my base is fading too.. its a shade lighter than my s2000 antenna. i have never used any products on it at all. sucks that it fades.

I've never used that stuff, but I bought some tire shine... not the ArmorAll foam stuff, but some liquid spray. It made my tires look nice, but the stuff was so oily that any liquid that dripped onto my rims became an instant brake dust magnet and became this black gooey stuff that was impossible to clean off. Bottom line, I don't use that tire shine on my tires, but I spray it on a rag and use it to re-shine all of the rubber trim, including my splashguards. Makes everything look nice and shiny black. I have to reapply it every other month, but it looks wicked nice.

Re: Antenna fading (Rnwyjim)

Mine isn't exactly fading, but it was scraped by that wooden stick that goes up and down at parking lot enterences/exits

Now the front part of the base is white, and there are scratches on my roof

Great. I'll try the Back to Black. I've never used anything on it until then. Maybe I should...
