Re: Any APR or ATP stage 3 1/4 mile times yet? (Wolk's Wagon)
quote:

What if Joe Smoe(ME )can't drive for a ----. Would that give you a basis for how strong the car is. Not really. To me something like the video of the customer with the stage III golf running a supercharged S2000 gives me a better idea of how strong that sucker is. Besides how many times has the Vortex seen someone post a time or dyno then instantly be accused of being on the "in" with whatever tuner. I know you guys are wanting tranverse times but to make a point I have only ran a 14.0 quarter but with a trap speed of over 103mph. Does that mean the APR kit is low on power? Nope, it means I can't drive, I only need 3 gears through the quarter and I am racing at an altitude of 6,000 ft. and my car weighs alot. Alot of factors in quarter mile times-.

This is honestly one of the best takes I've heard on 1/4 times. I completely agree. You could take 10 drivers and get 10 different times that vary by 1.5 seconds in the same exact car. When cars make serious power, driver ability is a LARGE portion of the 1/4 time factor. Nick ran that 12.6 and it's legitimate. Nick is also a good driver and has had the car for quite some time and is very familiar with it, so it doesn't mean that every stage III owner is going to run 12.6. In fact, Nicks 60 foot time on the 12.6 was something like 1.99, not that great. The car is capable of going very quickly, there are just a lot of variables from car to car, driver to driver, tire to tire, track to track, etc.
Fact is the car is very conservatively rated at 290hp on 93 and 340hp on 100, whatever any given driver can do with that is up to them. I do think it will be fun to start seeing customer cars and their times. But, I just think people need to remember all the variables that live at the track.
