I am on my second set of RE730's, and will need a new set soon in a few months. My friend with a Celica is having problems with his set of RE730's, he said they are wearing uneven, i guess the term is like cupping, not sure. But where as if you look at the tire as if they were on teh car and look at the tread it goes up down up down , meaning the wear of the tread, that is if you are looking at it from the profile where it would be on the car. What is the proper term, and has anyone else experienced this. He said that people on the Celica board were having problems with the tires saying that they have changed the compound , Is this true ???

I've had 2 sets. No problems. Suck in the cold and snow though...

how many miles are you getting out of your potenza's? i am on my first set with 30k and it looks like its time to replace..is this about right? thanks

30K miles is damn good for ANY performance tire. I usually get only about 10 - 15K miles out of mine.
Rochester, eh? I grew up there. I hope to hell you don't drive these tires in the winter there. RE730s are frightening in cold weather.

I had Re-730's for about 20K miles and began to notice uneven wearing of the tread, so I rotated the tires and noticed they got louder than when they were new. I knew it would be a bit louder after rotating but it sounded abnormal, so after 5K I put them back to the old configuration. It did quiet down but I still wasn't satiisfied with the ride quality. I checked and changed tire pressures and nothing really helped.
I then decided to get a new set of rim/tires from the Rack. I knew everyone loved the Kumhos but I decided to take a chance on the Sumitomo HTZII's and the difference was incredible. They are super quiet and grip very well, though I haven't driven on them wet yet. I'm curious to try the Kumho's next to see how they compare to the Sumi's, but I like these so much I may just get the Sumi's again. If I were you I'd give either the Kumho's or Sumi's a try because I think the RE-730's are crap in comparison.

Noise? Who gives a crap about noise? The crowd you're talking to puts exhausts on their cars to make them LOUDER!
Noise.....sheesh.

As for Bridgestone tire wear, I had uneven treadwear due to my alignment. I have friends that use these tires on 911s, Nissan 240Zs, BMW 5 series....pretty much everything. Everyone loves them - I'm amazed you weren't satisfied, but not everyone can agree.
I'd love to know how the Kumhos compare with the Sumitomos. Either way, the Sumis have a much lower treadware rating than the Bridgestones or the Kumhos. I doubt they'd last me more than 10K miles.

I'm glad you and your friends are enjoying the RE-730's, I liked them until I tried the Sumi's. Maybe you wouldn't be so amazed if you tried them for yourself.
Are you the guy I've seen driving around Belmont with that obnoxiously LOUD exhaust

Sadly, I have no aftermarket exhaust to drown out my incredibly loud tires. However, I find that if I listen to an old Sam Kineson comedy CD at full volume with my portable stereo earphones duct taped to my head, I can only just hear the tread noise.

RE730's + snow + freezing hand brake = deathwish driving and/or parked car (optional ditch included)

oldkidVR6: did u change your wheel size when you put on the kumho's? that could have had a great impact on the handling characterstics of your car, not just the tires...

Yeah I went from 15's to 16's, I know going a bit bigger would impact the handling. BTW i got Sumitomo's, not Kumho's, and I was referring to the smoothness/quietness of the ride more than anything in comparison to the RE 730's. Both are good tires for the money, but I'd buy the Sumi's again.
