any recommended or not Passat year & model ?

i'm thinking of picking up a used Passat (not too $$). any recommendations or ones to avoid ? thanks.

I think most will say to stay away from automatics and check all the accessories for proper operation.

Service records are key here!! Do not rule out automatic trans. as the VR6 models have no issues,and they tend to enjoy synthetic fluid. The issues with auto's seems to be with the ones behind the 4-cyl., and their relays burning out.
Like any automobile, care and attention pay dividends in the end!!

if you are looking for a cheap car, go with a B3 2.0 16v. they can be picked up for cheap, but if you've got a little more money go for a VR6....5-speed of course. My B3 is a blast to drive, and it's pretty quick for such a big car....

Either B3 or B4, which every tickles your fancy. There really the same, except for cosmetic changes.

Yup, the only exterior changes from B4 to B4 were new front end, new door skins and new quarter panels (deletion of the crease down the side), and new taillights.

My B3 has high miles but it still hauls some serious ass. As a note, check the moon roof. From what ive heard VW has had some problems w/the automatic moon roofs.
