for the MQB tiguan, is there any way to tie down the rear tailgate? I just realized theres no hook on the rear tailgate
like if you buy 2x4's or something and they stick out where you have to leave the rear tailgate open

You can try putting the rope / bunge cord through the latch and then closing the latch with your finger. Then you can tie / clip the ends under the bumper. I have used this on my 2018 Tiguan, (does not have the auto tailgate). Good luck.

You can also put the rope / bunge through the pull down handle and the hook up under the bumper. then you don't have to worry about the latch opening.

exactly this. there seems to be no way to tie it down besides using the latch.
