Anybody shed any light on Hood Latch??????

454 Views 8 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  89GLi
Happy Friday Volks,
I had to push start my ride and my hood was up (long story) and when I popped the clutch the hood came down....no biggie no dents from the prop thing any way my hook latch thing seems fine and the spring plunger thing that goest to the rad support seems fine but wont click and lock. My latch just catches like the hood was just popped. I have a 60mile highway commute in a couple hrs and don't really want to roll out the chicken wire! Any tips?

TIA,
Eric

Check the rivets for the piece that the latch hooks into. Same prob with mine before..it broke the rivets. good luck

P.S. It's okay to drive like that if you can convince yourself it's safe. It won't come up on ur 60 mile drive if you can't get ahold of new rivest asap

occasionally my latch release cable sticks and the latch wont secure... it scared the crap out of me one day when I wasdoing 60kmh and i saw my hood jump up 2 inches..
have you checked that?
all you have to do is push on the release lever to reset the latch.

Thanks Kids!
4 rivots under the rad support? everything on the hood itself seems fly. Any the latch seems to be doing its job just the phunky spring deal wont engage in the rad suport hole!

Can't read!!! Rivots under the rad support, I'll check it out!
Enjoy the weekend all

I would not drive like that, even if I could convince myself that it was safe..
My hood's being held down by 3 bungee cords, one on each side, and one in the middle. I really have to get a new hood and fix it.

BUNGEE

You can see the rivets from atop the rad support. Just look where the latch goes in the hole. I bet you it's the rivets... I'm so convinced. You say this happened because you dropped the hood, which makes me think the latch hit it's target really hard, and that busts the rivets sometimes.

WORD!!!
I just fixed it! The little clip on the pop the hood cable was detached! It was hiding and I didn't see it on 1st inspection! Thanks Guys!
Now I'm back to figuring out my cold start prob I've been dealing w/ for 3 weeks! Put in a brand new coolant temp sensor and if I plug it in the engine dies warm or cold just like the old one! Gonna test my CSV and that other funky thermo time switch or wateve....hangin w/ bently tomorrow!
