Anyoen successfully import a Corrado from US to Canada

I went to the Transport Canada website and it says that the 90-94 Corrado is inadmissable to Canada.
http://www.tc.gc.ca/roadsafety/importusa/english/im3idx_e.htm
It doesn't give an exact reason, but I am sure that it has to do with the power upper seatbelts. I don't think that these were allowed in Canada until 95.
Has anyone imported one of these cars and then had the seatbelts changed to active seatbelts (solid mounted to B-pillar) and had it approved for use in Canada?

Dan,
You CANNOT imprt a Corrado to Canada, and It has nothing to do with the seatbelts. According to Canadian customs, the US Corrado's cannot be brought up to the Canadian bumper standards (which is incorrect - It's a simple matter of replacing the inner front bumper support).
The bad news is here: http://www.tc.gc.ca/roadsafety/importusa/english/im3vw_e.htm

I read that page also, but it does not go into detail.
My brother-in-law had a car with power seatbelts when he lived in Arizone. He couldn't bring it back across and register it. The next year they allowed power seatbelts.
Oh well, I guess I will keep searchin Canada for one, or a MK3 Golf VR6.

The law is WACKED. Basically they are saying that you must meet some safety standards. However once a car is older than 15 years, it admissible. Then all the requirements are tossed out the window. This makes no sense whatsoever.
Just wait another 5 years.

15 years? Woah! What a way to get a Rallye in Canada! Screw the rado, get one of them bad boys!

As a few of you know... I am desperately still trying to accomplish this very thing. I moved here with my C... it was refused entrance at the border.

Whatever happens, I will keep everyone posted on what happens. I am pretty much willing to do anything to keep my C.

alphazero,
I was/am contimplating moving back up to Nova Scotia, My thought was to obtain a PO box in Maine, and Register the vehicle using that address. Some postal box services will forward the contents of your box to another address, eliminating the need to maintain the box regularly. This seems like it would work, unless I have missed something blatant. Perhaps something simmilar may work for you.
HTH,

Ooooh.... so devious. I like it.

How well would this work at the border though... I wonder. Having Maine plates, claiming residence in Canada and ownership of the car. It is the border I am afraid of. If they figured out what was going on... they would take my car I think.
