Good one! http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
Sorry, they suspect the fuel pump is broken, and are trying to charge her $272 to replace it. I am thinking a jumper for the fuel pump and verify it is truly dead first.
Anyone know of a online diagram for a jumper for a 84 GTI?

ARGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!! Ok.. heres excatly what happened. I was driving (moving to Denver CO from Wisconsin) and I noticed that when theres less then half tank of gas,... the car starts to 'cough'. But I didn't think it was all biggie... then I went to fill up more gas. It stops the cough. Then about 3/4 gas in the tank,...the car started to "cough" worst.... and I noticed that I'm losing more gas faster ...but wasnt sure. I also noticed that when I go up the hill,...thats when the car start to 'cough' most.
Somehow, the car just 'gave' up....I couldn't go any faster anymore. so I pulled over and the car just died. (the oil lights came on.) When I start the car again, Seems to me the charger will start but needs help with gas to get it started it. The tow dude came. Tow my car. I totally freaked out because I requested for a flatbed tow truck becuz my car is low and I have full of stuff in my car! He said...dont worry dont worry...treatin me like I don't know NOTHING ABOUT CARS! finally I gave up and let him tow my car. We got to his shop...he said the fuel pump is gone. Asking $271.70 total to fix it. Is he ripping me off or what? NEED HELP SERIOUSLY!

Possibly a fuel filter filling up as well!
I only wish I was there! I could totally get this car running!
so far-
jump relay
check fuel filter
Anyone? Anyone?
Re: ANYONE AROUND DES MOINES IOWA?!? (VWGrrll)

could be rust or crap in pump not allowing full flow and eventually heat-siezing pump . ( petrol flow is coolant )
it could be by the time you refill , its cooled down enough to stop coughing .
odds on you go to garage now and it will start !!!!!!!!!
while you're changing pump , remove fuel filte and blow through pipe with comrssor , then fit new fuel filter as well
i'm in uk ,bit confused as i though all golfs were called rabbit over in usa , but reading archived posts as made me think not !!!
your car is sameas an A1 golf gti , yes ???
Re: ANYONE AROUND DES MOINES IOWA?!? (ian c - U.K.)

Yea its 84 gti rabbit two doors.
The problem is.. i'm AN IDIOT! I don't know too much about the engine. (thats why Im moving to COlorado just so Brad can teach me!) I'm calling the dude to move my car outside of the garage so I can swing by and check the car myself...hopefully someone can help me out too!. someone please please please!
help?

AARG!
This is exactly what you were worried about. To make the jumper wire work to test the fuel pump relay you need to remove the fuel pump relay(it will say fuel pump relay below it in very small writing) then stick your test wire in holes 30 and 87, also marked very small. Holes 30 and 87 will be the ones that are vertical in the very middle..You must replace the fuel filter (I thought I asked you if you did that already
) and if you can't get her workin' then you need to get country joe to make something happen for you...If he does replace the pump make sure its an OEM Bosch unit, or you will have a pump crapping out on you again in about a year..After he fixes it go drive the crap out of it around town to make sure what Ian-c UK is talking about doesn't happen..Nothing worse than paying $300 for a mere temp fix ..Take a deep breath, have some fun and good luck!!

Re: ANYONE AROUND DES MOINES IOWA?!? (A1speedracer)

This is REALLY SUCKS!!!!!!!!!
They replaced the fuel pump. the rabbit started BUT it drives 'sluggish' So they replaced the fuel filter....and it still drives 'sluggish' Now they're thinking there might be a crack in vac system on intake main fold. I hate Iowa. I WANT TO GO HOME!

I can't wait to get to denver and have a nice cold beer.
