I want to do a front brake job on my Golf next weekend, but I don't have the pads or discs yet.
I'd like to get Mintex redbox pads and OEM discs. Where is the best place to get these parts? I'm in Hamilton.
I'm not married to the Mintex pad idea yet in case anyone else can suggest an alternative setup that has less dust than the stock pads.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Anyone around Hamilton-Oakville area know a good source for brake parts? (Bob Roberts)

Bob, I ordered mine on the net ...but I can't remember where right now. I'd know it if I heard it. They were pretty cheap and quick in delivery times. BUT if I had to do it again, I wouldn't go through the trouble of ordering the Mintex. For one thing, the dust is minimal but not as good as I had hoped really. Much better though. For another, the 'shim' kit on one of the pads wore out right away and came off. It was just a stuck on kind of vinyl (or something) sticker thingy. Now my right pad squeals once in awhile. Not too bad, but noticeable.
Mantis in Oakville has Hawk brake pads and EBC Greenstuff. Hawk are good for braking performance I've heard but not sure about dust. EBC is great for that though from what I hear.
Also good for dust are Raybestos pads. I had a buddy who had them on his A4 and he says they were great. You can get them here in Oakville at Carquest auto pretty cheaply.
I would probably just go for the Raybestos pads next time I think...good pads, little dust, comparable in price.

I'm running KVR Carbon Fibre pads..
Ordered from a place in Ottawa.. I think I paid $180-200 for pads all around, including shipping and taxes about a year ago..
I can look up the invoice if you want. Or find KVR on the 'web, and ask 'em for a list of dealers..

I just ordered a set of Brembo cross-drilled rotors & pads for my Passat. I had the same setup on my GTI & loved it. Little to no brake dust & the car stopped on a dime, with NO warm up needed. I'd highly reccommend them (Brembo & KVR) 1-888-782-3788 or (613) 746-2378. BTW if you go with the rotors pay the extra & get'em coated (will eliminate the rust inside the holes)...

I'm looking at Brembo rotors($54 each) and Metamaster pads($90 set) from Mantis Racing in Oakville. Can't afford anything really fancy right now and the brakes are already grinding !

You can cheaper rotors at Peninsula Imports...at least I did. I got Brembo vented rotors from them. Can't recall the cost though.

Ended up going with http://www.marksbugbarn.com/ They are two minutes from my house and can get you whatever the dealer can, minus dealer prices. OEM rotors and Pagid pads for $192 taxes included.
He does a lot of aircooled work but is getting into more and more watercooled work, seemed like a nice guy. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
