Seems like we mostly talk about new cars & exotics around here... but I'd like to change it up a little.
My first car was a 1951 Mercury Lead Sled, so I've always had a passion for the look of a classic custom.
Everyone calls modern guys that perform extensive body mods "ricers" now, but truthfully they're just doing everything that street rodders have been doing for 75 years!

Man, you guys would love Oregon. I think customs and hot-rods come here to retire. It's unbelievable how many you see on cruise weekends in the Summer.

And I'm talking full-on, took years to build, fully chromed out chassis and engines, the works.

I'm not really into the rods you see all the time. Now the traditional rods, I LOVE those. Screw overdrive, Mustang II front suspensions, fingerglass bodies, etc. I love the flathead and Buick Nailhead powered traditional rods.

Good Guys isn't really my thing. Good Guys has looked a lot like the Small Block Nationals for the last 10 years.... These are hot rods

I used to love showing my old merc, I'd roll up to the show in my daily driver Flathead V8 and just giggle at the mass of 350s. Usually I'd be the only flathead at the show!

ABSOLUTELY!!!

My personal faves include the '32 you show pictured (I think it's a 32 anyway), '49 Merc, '64 Galaxie 500 XL fastback, Ford Talledega, and '64 Falcon fastback. There's plenty more, but I can't remember them all now. I go to the hot-rod cruise-ins whenever they come around. I actually think I go to more of these than VW shows.

Re: Anyone else love street rods & customs? (MkIII)

I've always had a thing for '34 Ford 3 windows and '53 Mercs. In fact, I know where there's a '53 Merc sitting in a yard in North Dakota practically with my name on it. Only problem is that I'd need to go get it (no problem) and then I'd have to have a garage space to put it in (big problem). But since my wife has already pretty much given the go-ahead, it's just a matter of time.
