Anyone have any info on the BFGoodrich Winter Slalom?

I can get the BFGoodrich Winter Slalom with or without studs at my local Costco for $76 (in 205/55/16).
That is a good price I think. But I'd like to hear from anyone with any thoughts on the tire or other good candidates.
We tend to get more freezing rain than snow and we really don't get much of either but I have burned up my Michelin Pilots so even a light dusting is dangerous.
Thanks

Last year I purchased a set of BFG Winter Slalom studded 205/60/15 from a Portland, OR Costco and have been quite satisfied with them on my 99 Passat 1.8T Variant. Went over the mountain passes to Mt. Hood and Mt. Bachelor with no problems. When back in Portland area, I take them off and put on my "summer" 205/55/16 Kumho 712's to save the roads and give better traction in the wet and dry.

I have the Kunho 712's on my 99 Passat 1.8T Variant and Bridfestone RE730's on my 00 Jetta GLX, both in 205-55-16. I think the 730's may have a slight performance edge but I am very unhappy about their excessive noise--they sound like my father's snow tires did when I was a kid growing up 25 years ago. Overall I am very pleased with the Kumho's and think they're an awesome value!
