And know how to use it? I had a CEL light come on tonight and I'd like to get/clear the code.

Yes I have one. It will require you to make a trip to Colo. Springs though as I have no time to travel.
Re: Anyone have VAG COM? (Supercharged VR6)

Thanks, I may take you up on that. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
Let me see if I can find anyone in Denver with a copy.

Re: Anyone have VAG COM? (BoraVR6)

My VAG-COM software and cable came today. So I hooked my car up and pulled the following codes:
17978 Electronic Control Module blocked by immobilizer 35--10 intermitent
16804 Catalyst System, Bank 1 Efficiency Below Threshold
17536 Long Term Fuel Trim multi., Bank 1 System too Lean
18020 Power System (B+) Terminal 30 Low Voltage
Here's the thread for the progress I'm making on sorting them out. http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=245425
Re: Anyone have VAG COM? (BoraVR6)

<--- Rolled 2000 posts as BoraVR6 so time to start from scratch.

Anyhow back to the topic at hand. I've now got a few trips around town after resetting my codes. So far the CEL has not come back. So I think I just didn't get the airbox in correctly the first time. Its just too coincidental that 5 miles after putting the airbox in I get a CEL.
I'll drag out the computer and hook the car up again in a week to see if there are any new codes that may not have tripped a light, but for now it looks like just my rush to get things back together that caused this problem.

It happens...incorrectly installed airbox etc.. may have thrown the system into a frenzy. I'd say if you driven a good bit now and have no CEL's you're probably good to go.

Re: Anyone have VAG COM? (A1speedracer)

on a small little run against my friends SVT Contour, my line from the FPR to the nitrous management unit came off. I guess the pressure from the nitrous in the intake manifold can come off very easy.
Anyhow, I reattached the line and took the ground off the batt. It seems to work.

Hmmm... looks like I spoke too soon. My check engine light came back on this morning on the way to work.

I'll pull the codes again tonight and post them. At least this way I'll know which ones are related to this problem, and which were triggered by other events (like the imobilizer code and probably the battery code too).
Can bad gas trigger a CEL? The reason I ask is that the CEL has only been on for this current tank full (and its come on twice now). Maybe I'm just in O2 sensor denial

** maf **
or it can be a loose or corroted terminal. Did u tighten your neg batt when u got that bolt replaced?

Re: Anyone have VAG COM? (1BadAzzVR6)

Yeah I tightened the battery cable when I got the new bolt - I just didn't overtighten it this time.
So I'm not expecting to see the Battery Code again tonight.
I could have sworn all my connections to my airbox were good, but I'll recheck those again too. The only codes I expect to see are the two full trim/lean codes, but I'll post the specific repeat offenders tonight.

Re: Anyone have VAG COM? (BoraVR6)

Just to rehash. These are the codes I pulled on Tuesday when my CEL first came on:
quote:

17978 Electronic Control Module blocked by immobilizer 35--10 intermitent
16804 Catalyst System, Bank 1 Efficiency Below Threshold
17536 Long Term Fuel Trim multi., Bank 1 System too Lean
18020 Power System (B+) Terminal 30 Low Voltage

I'm at 55,000 miles and before Monday the last time the codes were checked was at 40,000 (none were found). I cleared the codes above and my CEL went out.
This morning, my CEL came on again. This is the only DTC code I have currently:
17536
VAG-COM description: Fuel Trim: Bank 1 (multi) System too lean 35--10 intermitent
Bentley description: Long Term Fuel Trim multi., Bank 1 System too Lean
So now that this is the ONLY code I have, I'm starting to think O2 sensor, but I'll find out Monday when I take into the dealer (Osborne).

You know Dave this is some of the most informational troubleshooting I have ever read on the MKIV. I wish I had that for my A1's.

Thanks for letting us tag along with your cars issues.

I'll keep you posted on what I find out. Let's just hope there aren't too many more of these issues... at least not for another 55k.

Re: Anyone have VAG COM? (CoolWhiteVR6)

Well I found someone who had the same 17536 code and they fix required replacement of the MAF. Previously a couple people had suggested this, but it wasn't until tonight that I found someone that had the same code.
Therefore, since I'm at almost 56,000 miles I've started another thread. Basically I'm looking for people that have had MAF's replaced with milage between 24,000 and 100,000 miles (i.e. out of BTB warrenty, but still well within the powertrain warrenty).
I remember that there have been quite a few people say that even after 24,000 miles they got their MAF replaced at VWoA's expense (but usually not until they called customer care).
I'm just going to try to head this off a little early by getting my supporting evidence together now.

Re: Anyone have VAG COM? (CoolWhiteVR6)

Well, I took my Jetta into Osborne VW on Colfax today. They pulled the code (17536) and checked the O2 sensor and the MAF. They reported no problems with either, cleared the code, and sent me on my way - a little lighter in the wallet.
My cousin and I then drove up to boulder and we test drove a couple BMW's (a great way to spend an afternoon BTW).
On the trip home, my CEL came back on.
I called Osborne back. While I was on hold, the "Osborne On Hold Radio Network" was talking about how they have the skilled technicians to get the problem fixed right the first time.
After they picked up again, I made another appointment for Wednesday.
Anyhow, I'll keep you posted on what happens Wednesday.

I'll keep you posted on what Osborn finds/fixes and you can draw your own conclusions. But I'll be waiting until the fix is done before drawing any long term conclusions

Re: Anyone have VAG COM? (CoolWhiteVR6)

Just got off the phone with Travis at Osborne http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif
Code 17978: After spending most of the morning with the second round of diagnostic, the MAF came out of spec to the point it was deemed necessary to replace. The cost of a new MAF and labor is ~$500.
I'm at 56,000 miles. I believe the emissions warrenty is 50k (not sure). Anyhow, Travis told me he had already talked with VWoA. VWoA agreed to cover my MAF replacement (parts and labor) as part of a "Good Will Warrenty."

I'll be picking the car up after work today. And of course, I'll post to this thread again if the CEL comes back on in the next few days.
