Re: Anyone know... (DUHSHET)

Last I talked to him, he doesn't do any installations of anything anymore...
I did some looking and BahnBrenner in Auburn does Upsolute Chip installation. They might do your chip. Their number is (253) 833-2299.
I found these under "Electronic Services, Automotive" in the Yellow pages. I don't know what they do though but it's worth a shot.
Dynatek in Lynnwood: (425) 743-3552
Electro Test Incorporated in Renton: (425) 227-7799
"Engine Repairs, Automotive"
Mobile Mechanic in Seattle: (206) 285-2507
"Automotive Repair Shops"
A 1 Import Service in Seattle: (206) 325-1512
Carl's VW Repair in Seattle: (206) 363-5560 (might be air-cooled)
Daisywagen Foreign Car Service Limited in Seattle: (206) 522-4664
Hans German Automotive Master in Seattle: (206) 706-0095
Vokesmasters in Seattle: (206) 632-8770
Hopefully one of those will yield someone who can help. If not, let me know and I'll do some other searches

Also, just an FYI, Dub Oddity is Matt Crooke at Tuning Zubehor in Simi Valley, CA. Matt Johnson's handle on here is Evolution Sports. And both of them are pimps.

Yes installing a chip in your 98 is plug n play, pretty simple and straight forward since its not soldered in. Matt @ Evolution can hook you up with the techtonics chip, and if you need help I can assist you at the next GTG..just let me know in advance so I can bring some tools. here are some instructions on how to do chip install on your car: http://www.iei.net/~chrphill/vw/vw.html

Right now I have a k&n drop in panel with the front cut out of my airbox, which if fine for now, but will probably do the eurosport with all the shields soon. That looks like one of the best concepts to me.........

Re: Anyone know... (DUHSHET)

that's all i did, but i do see the performance side of having everything shielded off from the open element filter. It's kind of just up to your personal preference. I tend to hose down my engine compartment once and a while, so it is handy to have most of the airbox in tact.

Good point. I have those lower grill inserts(under the turnsignals).....Was thinking of running a hose(passenger side only)to the airbox.....instead of swiss cheese....Whatcha think?

Re: Anyone know... (DUHSHET)

have you taken out the cone yet? if you havent.. i have a good way to get it out. i read about it somewhere online...
there are two little pegs on the cone (upper half of the air box, big time air restricter) Those pegs are very annoying, if you dont keep them depressed. So, what i read about, was cutting a soda can up so that you have two squares that you will be able to slide in so that they are between the pegs and the holes that they fit into in the tube of the airbox.
Once the tin is in place, just use some needles nose plyers and start tugging on the cone. it SHOULD slip out realatively easy. Ive heard that this mod does help.. something like 3 horsepower? that cone has around a 3.5" area at the filter end, and a 5.5" area of tube it fit into. That is a big difference of air travel space. Its a sort of resonator, to quite the intake. But, if youre cutting a hole or running a pipe.. it wont matter mcuh anyway : )
I cut a hole in the front right corner of my airbox. i love the mod : ) it sounds bad ass, and my car feels so much better. Better throttle response and overall drive.
good luck with it, and happy modding : )

Re: Anyone know... (DUHSHET)

take the "screw" looking part and push it back in the clip. If you look @ it. once the "screw" goes in the 2 wedge style clamps are pushed out to hold it in. if you back the screw out a bit the taps will be easier to put together, and fit in the hole, then push the "screw" in to hold it. http://****************.com/smile/emthup.gif hope that made sense as I am pretty high on vicadine from my surgery right now....
