Re: Anyone running Redline Gear oil? (JPawn1)

jpawn: maybe you had a different result than i did, but i dropped 2 bottles into my 2.0l tranny and OMG its so much better now! i wouldnt say it worked awesome unless it really did

i have a shortshifter on my car and it has 133k miles.. if i went past 3k then shifted into 2nd it would grind absolutely every time. now that i have redline i think i have crunched 2nd maybe 3 times in the last 6 months.. and two of those are because i didnt have the clutch in all the way! i've done a few smokers and wound it up then shifted to 2nd and all is good so far.

Re: Anyone running Redline Gear oil? (Fast16v)

i forgot to add: it didnt help a whole lot for cold shifting... its ok but could be better. mostly it helped 2nd gear stop grinding

Re: Anyone running Redline Gear oil? (K9jetta)

I actually just got some Redline in my 96 GLX tonight...i think its the MTX...84K on the car, and the tranny felt pretty good to begin with...i've only driven about 5 mis with the new fluid, and it felt like the shifter went into gears a little smoother, but it might be all in my head...give me a few days to drive around...my mechanic said that it is really good to get that stuff in there and get the factory stuff out...i guess the redline is supposed to protect your gears better and should make your syncros last a bit longer...my friend sold a G60 at his dealership and he said that the 2nd gear syncro was going bad and crunching into gear and they changed to redline and now it shifts totally smooth

quote:

First off: How much gear oil do I need?
Second: What are your opinions on the Redline?
Its going into a 5speed 2.slow.

2.0 tranny takes 2.2 quarts/liters? I have no idea of the measurment, but buy 3 bottles.
I have the redline.... in my garage!
Sooooooooooooo lazy.

Re: Anyone running Redline Gear oil? (koston)

i was told not to use this stuff...and just use the stuff the dealer gives you..(the high quality) dealer stuff...costs like twice a much but way worth it.....as i know someone who used redline and there tranny got stuck in 5tho r 2nd gear getting on the highway...and all other gears were really notchy (they couldnt get out of gear, and had to get it towed back
